Pashinyan seeks Civil Contract nomination for premiership in 2026 elections

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on Thursday that he seeks to be the ruling Civil Contract Party’s nominee for premiership in next year’s parliamentary elections.

Speaking at a press briefing, Pashinyan was asked how the party would form its proportional list ahead of the elections.

“Our party’s political activity is not determined by me personally. The Civil Contract party is a democratic party, where electoral processes are conducted openly and transparently, and decisions are made collectively. I am the chairman of the party board, whose vote, in cases and procedures defined by the party charter, carries decisive weight, but this does not mean that these matters are resolved on a personal level. All these matters exist, but they concern the party—they are not about an individual. The party itself provides answers to these questions through its organizational and political processes. As a candidate for parliament, I will be included on the list according to the same logic, and I also aim to be the candidate for Prime Minister. The process of forming the list will provide answers to all these questions,” the Prime Minister said.

The Civil Contract party earlier announced that candidates wishing to be included in the party’s proportional list for the 2026 parliamentary elections can self-nominate from November 1 to November 30, 2025.

Among those who have self-nominated for inclusion in the party’s proportional list are Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan, ministers, members of parliament, and other officials.
