Trump orders 500 more National Guard troops to Washington, D.C. after shooting

United States President Donald Trump called for a crackdown on immigration and ordered 500 more troops to Washington, D.C., after the shooting of two National Guard members patrolling the U.S. capital and the identification of an Afghan national as the suspect, according to the New York Times.

Trump posted a video from Palm Beach, Fla., where he is spending Thanksgiving, describing the shooting as an “act of terror.”

Trump deployed the National Guard to D.C. in August as part of a federal crackdown on crime in the nation's capital.

Nearly 2,200 National Guard troops were still in D.C. as of Tuesday, down from a peak of 2,500, according to Axios.
