Armenia and EU mark eight years since CEPA signing

The Government of the Republic of Armenia, the delegation of the European Union to Armenia, and the Embassy of Denmark celebrated on November 25 the eighth anniversary of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which facilitates the strengthening of Yerevan–Brussels political dialogue, economic cooperation, and Armenia's commitment to reforms, Grigoryan’s office said in a statement.

It was noted that since its signing, CEPA has played an important role in promoting Armenia's development, improving democratic governance, and advancing the rule of law, while also creating promising economic opportunities for all citizens.

According to the statement, Armenia and the European Union have jointly implemented reforms in the areas of justice, public administration, human rights, and environmental protection, while also making progress in digital transformation, connectivity, and sustainable economic development.

"Today we have an opportunity not only to look back at the path we have taken, but also to formulate future actions. A future where CEPA, together with the new Armenia–EU Partnership Agenda, will be the backbone of our reforms, the benchmark of development programs, and a key pillar of international relations."

“The partnership established between Armenia and the European Union is already reaching a new level, preserving the value basis of CEPA and expanding its political and economic coverage,” Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan said on the occasion of the eighth anniversary of the signing of CEPA.

Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Armenia, Ambassador Vassilis Maragos, in turn, said that over the years, cooperation between the parties has developed, with the European Union’s ongoing support for Armenia's reform agenda, socio-economic stability, economic diversification, and deepening regional ties.

“As Denmark currently holds the EU Presidency, we are pleased to support today’s anniversary event by bringing Danish keynote speaker Sven Knudsen to Armenia.

We highly appreciate this opportunity to present Denmark's experience in public sector innovation, as well as in implementing reforms and achieving results through cooperation with various partners in society, both at the national and international levels.

Such an approach helps develop structures and solutions that meet the complexities of the modern world and may help reveal the full potential of CEPA,” Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Denmark to Armenia Anne Toft Sørensen said.

During the event, it was noted that Armenia and the European Union continue their efforts to deliver tangible results that will improve the lives of Armenian citizens, fostering a more dynamic and forward-looking partnership.

The Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the Republic of Armenia and the European Union was signed in Brussels on November 24, 2017.
The National Assembly of Armenia unanimously ratified the agreement on April 18, 2018.
CEPA officially took effect on March 1, 2021. It has also been ratified by all EU member states and the European Parliament.
