Armenian ambassador meets Greek legislators

Armenian Ambassador to Greece Tigran Mkrtchyan met with Members of Parliament representing the Friendship Group with Armenia.

During the meeting with the lawmakers - the senior members of the Greece-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group - the parties discussed the friendship between the Armenian and Greek peoples, the de facto strategic cooperation between the two countries, and highlighted the important role of parliamentary diplomacy in this context, the embassy said in a press release. 

The bridging role of the Armenian diaspora in strengthening relations between Armenia and the countries of their residence, including Greece, was also emphasized.

Mkrtchyan presented the significance of the documents signed in Washington, the TRIPP initiative, as well as the role of the Crossroads of Peace in that context.

The Ambassador emphasized Armenia’s commitment to the peace process and also touched upon Armenia’s dedication to normalizing relations with Türkiye, which is of vital importance for Armenia and the region.

Head of the Friendship Group, Vasilis Oikonomou, said that Armenia’s dialogue with its neighbors is extremely important, and they hope that Armenia will succeed in establishing normal relations with Azerbaijan and Türkiye.

Secretary of the Friendship Group, Katerina Notopoulou, emphasized the importance of cooperation with diaspora organizations and proposed holding a youth conference in the city of Thessaloniki, which is her constituency.

The importance of enhancing parliamentary diplomacy and organizing reciprocal high-level visits, including those planned in the near future, was also underscored.
