The Armenian government’s Crossroads of Peace project has entered the implementation phase, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on Friday.

“This year, we will open the Gyumri-to-Yerevan section of the North-South road, which is practically already complete; only finishing works remain. The Agarak-Kajaran section is also being constructed at a very fast pace. Currently, there are very active discussions regarding the construction of the Sisian-Kajaran section, and the Bargushat Tunnel project is of particular importance, for which we are already entering the final phase of discussions,” the Prime Minister said during the Crossroads of Peace: Advancing Regional Connectivity and Cooperation international conference organized by Civil Contract Party and Konrad Adenauer Foundation.

In this context, PM Pashinyan highlighted the importance of the recent Russian and Kazakh wheat imports to Armenia via Azerbaijan.

“For the first time since Armenia’s independence, shipments from Russia and Kazakhstan have entered the Republic of Armenia through Azerbaijan, of course, currently via the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Armenia route,” Pashinyan said, adding that during the Soviet era, Armenia had direct railway connections with Azerbaijan through the Tavush and Syunik regions.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed that Armenia is ready to facilitate the transit of cargo vehicles through its territory from Türkiye to Azerbaijan and vice versa via Margara and Kornidzor.

“Today, this infrastructure is ready. In all other sections, our political will is also present, but investments will need to be made there,” Pashinyan said.
