Ronaldo to miss Armenia qualifier after red card during Ireland clash

1 minute read

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo will miss the upcoming second leg World Cup qualifier against Armenia after he got a red card during the match against Ireland.

Portugal is still leading the group rankings with 10 points, followed by Hungary with 8 points, Ireland with 7 points, and Armenia with 3 points.

With Portugal down 2–0 after Troy Parrott’s two first-half goals, Ronaldo tangled with Dara O’Shea in the Irish box around the hour mark, striking O’Shea in the back with his elbow.

Referee Glenn Nyberg initially issued Ronaldo a yellow card after seeing the clash, but following a prompt from the video assistant referee to check the pitch-side monitor, the Swedish official upgraded the decision to a red card.
