Midfielder Eduard Spertsyan has been named captain of the Armenian national football team, replacing Tigran Barseghyan, the Football Federation of Armenia reported.
Earlier in October, Armenia’s captain Tigran Barseghyan was disqualified for three matches after headbutting Ireland’s Finn Azaz during a World Cup qualifier in Dublin. Ireland subsequently won 1-0.
Spertsyan plays club football for FC Krasnodar.
Barseghyan, who plays for ŠK Slovan Bratislava, had earlier issued a public apology for what he described as “emotional” actions during the match in Ireland.
