Armenia-Azerbaijan accords clearly stipulate respect for territorial integrity, highlights Azerbaijani expert

Azerbaijani analyst Rusif Huseynov believes that the declaration signed in Washington on August 8 between Armenia and Azerbaijan provides answers to the contentious issues between the two sides.

Huseynov is the co-founder and director of the Topchubashov Center, a Baku-based think tank. He attended the Orbeli Forum 2025: Building Peace and Multilateral Cooperation international conference in Yerevan.

When asked whether the latest statement by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev might disrupt or obstruct the normalization process, Huseynov again cited the August 8 declaration. “The document clearly stipulates that the parties must respect each other’s territorial integrity and the inviolability of borders,” he said.

Earlier, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev claimed that early 20th-century "Tsarist Russian maps" show that “almost all place names in the territory of present-day Armenia are of Azerbaijani origin.”
