European Judo Championships U23: Armenia’s Vahe Aghasyan wins gold

Vahe Aghasyan, a member of the Armenian national judo team in the 60 kg weight category, has won a gold medal at the European Judo U23 Championships held in Chișinău, the capital of Moldova.

Aghasyan recorded a spectacular winning streak – defeating Bulgaria’s Hristo Hristov, Spain’s Luis Barroso Lopez and Moldova’s Vladimir Iacomi in the preliminary round.

In the semifinals, the Armenian judoka defeated Belgium’s Olivier Naert. He won gold after winning against Georgia’s Mate Gogoberishvili in the final round.

Aghasyan has become the second athlete in the history of Armenian judo to win a gold medal at the European U23 Championships. The first Armenian to achieve this in the age category was Armen Nazaryan, back in 2003.
