Highlighting general elections, PM Pashinyan says 2026 will be crucial for newly established peace

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on Monday that he expects the people to “uphold” the newly established peace with Azerbaijan during the 2026 parliamentary elections.

“The year 2026 will be of decisive importance for peace, because parliamentary elections will be held in June. These elections pose a key question that must be answered: the people of the Republic of Armenia, through their choice, must uphold peace. This is the central political meaning and purpose of the upcoming elections. The opposite outcome would drag Armenia back toward conflict. By upholding peace, the people of Armenia will also safeguard this newly achieved level of their independence, their sovereignty, and their statehood,” Pashinyan said at a parliamentary joint committee hearing on next year’s budget bill.
