Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan participated in an event dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, his office said.
In his speech, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the key role of the organization in strengthening peace, promoting development, and protecting human rights. He also highlighted the effective cooperation between the UN and the Republic of Armenia, as well as the significance of the COP17 conference to be held in Armenia.
“Having gone through decades of war and human tragedy, the world united in the firm conviction that peace, cooperation, development, and human rights must become the pillars of human coexistence. Thus was created the United Nations, whose eight decades of existence have been marked by numerous successes in ensuring international peace, eradicating poverty, advancing the rights of women and vulnerable groups, and protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms,” Grigoryan said.
He noted that since joining the UN in 1992, Armenia has consistently acted as a responsible partner. In October 2026, Armenia will host the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), contributing to international cooperation to effectively address global challenges related to climate change and biodiversity loss.
“We highly appreciate our programmatic cooperation with the UN Office in Armenia, which has greatly contributed to the establishment of democratic institutions in the country, the protection of human rights, the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, and the protection of refugees and other vulnerable groups,” he added.
