Masis community head Davit Hambardzumyan sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison

By Yerevan Criminal Court's verdict, Head of the Masis community Davit Hambardzumyan has been sentenced to six years and three months in prison, lawyer, a member of Hambardzumyan's defense team Tigran Atanesyan has announced on Facebook.

“The court also revoked the bail and applied detention as a preventive measure,” Atanesyan wrote.

In June 2018, Hambardzumyan was charged with intentionally violating public order as part of a group on April 22, 2018, at the busy intersection between the villages of Hayanist and Hovtashat in Ararat Province. The incident was marked by open disrespect toward society and involved the use of weapons and objects used as weapons against participants of a march heading to Republic Square, as well as the destruction of property.

In July 2018, Hambardzumyan was arrested but released two months later on bail of five million drams. The preliminary investigation into the case was completed in February 2019.
