French Foreign Minister reaffirms Paris' support for Armenia's sovereignty and peace process

Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the French Republic, met with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan on October 23 on the sidelines of the 4th Ministerial Conference on Feminist Diplomacy, organized in Paris, the French Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the development of constructive bilateral cooperation in various fields ahead of the upcoming signing of a strategic partnership agreement, as well as the further strengthening of Armenia-EU relations.

The French Minister reaffirmed Paris’ continued commitment to Armenia’s sovereignty and democratic stability. He also reiterated France’s full support for the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the positive momentum that began with the summit held in Washington on August 8.

The statement noted that developing regional ties and opening borders, while respecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of states, would help transform the South Caucasus into a region of peace and prosperity for the benefit of its peoples. The Minister welcomed recent steps taken in this direction, including Azerbaijan’s announcement to lift restrictions on the transit of goods to Armenia.
