Armenian, Azerbaijani ambassadors to Italy participate in Peace is Possible discussion

The Ambassador of Armenia to Italy, Vladimir Karapetyan, and the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Italy, Rashad Aslanov, participated in the “Peace is Possible” discussion organized by Giorgio Bartolomucci, head of the Festival della Diplomazia club. The event was attended by approximately 150 academics and students from various universities in Italy.

The discussion was moderated by Fabio Sokolowicz, the Diplomatic Advisor to the Mayor of Rome, the Armenian Embassy in Italy said in a press release.

The Ambassador of Armenia, presenting the Armenian Prime Minister's and Foreign Minister’s work towards establishing peace in the region, emphasized the importance of the agreements reached in Washington in August and highlighted the significance of the Washington documents.

Referring to the efforts of Prime Minister Pashinyan in establishing peace, the Ambassador specifically quoted the following passage from the Prime Minister’s earlier statement:

“We acknowledged with the President of Azerbaijan the need to chart a course for a bright future not bound by the conflict of the past, consistent with the Charter of the United Nations and the 1991 Almaty Declaration. We declared that the conditions have been created for our nations to finally embark on building good neighborly relations on the basis of the inviolability of international borders and the inadmissibility of the use of force for the acquisition of territory after the conflict that brought immense human suffering. This reality, which is not and should never be subject to revision, paves the way for closing the chapter of enmity between our two nations. We resolutely reject and exclude any attempt of revenge, now and in the future.”

Speaking about the transit route through Armenia, the Ambassador specifically highlighted the agreed principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, jurisdiction, and reciprocity.

The Ambassadors of Armenia and Azerbaijan also emphasized the special role of U.S. President Donald Trump in the establishment of peace in the region.

After the speeches, the ambassadors took questions from the students.
