Minister of Environment of Armenia Hambardzum Matevosyan met with Valerie Hickey, Global Director for Climate Change at the World Bank, in Abu Dhabi.
“During the meeting, we discussed current programs and new opportunities for cooperation between the Republic of Armenia and the World Bank. In particular, we touched upon the ‘RESILAND: Armenia’s Resilient Landscapes Program,’” Matevosyan said.
The project aims to support the implementation of the commitments and policies adopted by the Government of the Republic of Armenia in the field of environmental protection, focusing on biodiversity preservation, recultivation of abandoned and unclaimed mines, reforestation, and improvement of the relevant legislative framework.
“During the meeting, we also specifically addressed the preparatory work for the COP17 conference to be held in Armenia in 2026, as well as possible ways to involve the World Bank to ensure the effective organization of the conference and to promote the climate agenda,” the minister noted.
