Malta’s FM nominates Trump for Nobel Peace Prize citing Armenia-Azerbaijan mediation

Foreign Minister and Deputy PM of Malta, Ian Borg, has nominated U.S. President Donald Trump for a Nobel Peace Prize, citing his work mediating the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“Two weeks ago today, I met with President Trump and his wife in New York,” Borg said on Facebook. “As the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office in 2024, I worked with many people on the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, for a peace that was finally reached this summer by the American President. I presented the American President with a letter that I wrote on my behalf, in which I informed him that, like many others, I had nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize. I also encouraged him to continue working on the Middle East and Ukraine. I am happy today to see more commitment that is bringing us closer to peace.”

On 8 August this year, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, with the mediation of United States President Donald Trump, initialled a peace treaty and signed a joint declaration emphasizing the need to continue further efforts toward the signing and ratification of the agreement.

The Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders jointly nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
