Composer Shushan Sargsyan's mono-operas Reflections and Dialogue have been included in the long list of the Recording Academy’s 68th Grammy Awards in the “Best Contemporary Classical Composition” category.
At an event held on October 2 to mark the occasion, Sargsyan noted that the works were released in the United States and are available on more than 150 music platforms worldwide. She added that in the coming days it will be clear whether the mono-operas make it to the short list of the awards.
“Reflections” by Shushan Sargsyan is a chamber mono-opera written for soprano, violin, and piano. The work is performed by Tereza Gevorgyan (soprano, Great Britain), Martin Shahbazyan (piano, USA), and Eric Manukyan (violin, Armenia). The mono-opera “Dialogue” is written for baritone. It is performed by Axel Daveyan (baritone, Germany) and Martin Shahbazyan (piano, USA).
Sargsyan highlighted her collaboration with producer Yuri Volodarsky, based in the United States. She noted that for works to be considered for the Grammy Awards they must be released in the U.S. and submitted by a U.S.-based organization. She noted that the projects were realized under the high patronage of Armenia’s Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport.
Deputy Minister Daniel Danielyan stated that Sargsyan had participated in the ministry's competitive grant program, where her project was approved by the committee and received funding.
