Yerevan to invest in 250 electric buses to cut emissions and modernize public transport

Yerevan City Hall will purchase 250 new electric buses to upgrade the public transport fleet, Mayor Tigran Avinyan said on Monday.
He stated at an executive meeting at City Hall that the acquisition of the 18-meter buses will mark the final phase of the strategic fleet upgrade plan.
The new buses will replace the HIGER vehicles and Gazelle City minivans, “which regularly experience technical problems,” the mayor said.
The move will not only address issues with the current fleet, but also help mitigate air pollution, Avinyan emphasized, noting that electric buses have zero impact on air quality.
The 98-billion-dram project is expected to be implemented through international loan financing.
