Russian President Vladimir Putin met with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director-General Rafael Grossi in Moscow on the sidelines of the Global Atomic Week forum.
During the meeting, Putin said that Russia and the IAEA have been cooperating in all areas, including global nuclear safety, the Kremlin reported.
“We have cooperation practically in all areas, including the development of Russian energy, Russia’s participation in projects abroad, and other issues—first and foremost, global nuclear safety,” the Russian leader said.
Putin added that Russia wants to support the IAEA in resolving important issues.
“I want to express gratitude for this constructive partnership and assure you that we will do everything that depends on us to support your work,” President Putin said, thanking Grossi for attending the Global Atomic Week forum.
Grossi said that many countries are interested in cooperating with the Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation of Russia.
“Russia has a leading role in many countries, and many countries are interested in cooperating with Rosatom. We can see this today; these are countries in Asia and Africa. This is really an important moment, and the Agency’s presence is likewise important for supporting such projects and carrying them out constructively,” the IAEA chief said.
He emphasized the importance of discussing nuclear security and nuclear non-proliferation with Russia.
