Rosatom Director General ensures all interests of Armenia will be respected

Alexey Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom State Corporation, said at the World Atomic Week forum that Russia will fully respect Armenia’s decisions regarding the new power unit of the Armenian nuclear power plant.

The Russian side is following with great respect how Armenia is choosing a new solution for the planned power unit.

He praised the Armenian nuclear power plant, highlighting is resilience during the 1988 Spitak earthquake.

"It is the only nuclear power plant on Earth that has withstood such a blow. Since then, Armenian specialists have been implementing this project jointly with Rosatom, with our help and support. We say that the plant is yours, but the pride is ours together," said Likhachev, addressing the Prime Minister of Armenia.

He noted that the current stable operation of the plant and its planned  extension until at least 2036 are completely understandable for them.

“We are watching with great respect how you choose the next step in nuclear energy. And we also understand how important this step is, as it will shape the country's policy for at least the next 100 years. Believe me, we will do everything to ensure that all the interests of Armenia and the Armenian people are respected,” Likhachev said.
