Mayor of Armenian town shot dead

Volodya Grigoryan, the Mayor of Parakar — a town just outside Yerevan — has been shot dead along with another individual. A third person was wounded, authorities said.

Police said they received a 911 call reporting gunshots in Merdzavan around midnight on September 23.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that an investigation is underway.

Further details were not immediately available.

Grigoryan was elected Mayor of Parakar in April 2025.
