2025 World Championships: Armenian wrestling star to face Azerbaijani opponent in quarter-finals after first win

Armenian Greco-Roman wrestling star Artur Aleksanyan has won his first bout at the UWW 2025 World Wrestling Championships in Zagreb, Croatia.

Aleksanyan defeated China’s Zegang Wang 5–1 in the opening match of the men’s 97kg category.

The Armenian Olympic gold medalist and four-time World Champion has now advanced to the quarter-finals, where he will face Azerbaijan’s Murad Ahmadiyev.
