The newly appointed Ambassador of Switzerland to Armenia, Andrea Barbara Baumann, presented her credentials to the President of the Republic of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan.
Congratulating Ambassador Baumann on her appointment, President Khachaturyan emphasized the friendly relations established between Armenia and Switzerland. He noted that these relations hold special significance for the Republic of Armenia, the Presidential Office said.
“We have always felt Switzerland’s support in strengthening our democratic institutions. Of course, Switzerland supported us in the most difficult moments,” President Khachaturyan said.
He highlighted the prospects for expanding economic cooperation. “In recent years, trade turnover between our countries has shown a positive trend, but the existing potential is not fully utilized. Switzerland is a technologically developed country, which is of great interest to us,” the President noted. He also underscored the importance of technological cooperation and cultural ties between the two countries.
Ambassador Baumann, in turn, expressed gratitude for the warm reception. She stressed that the strong relations already formed between Armenia and Switzerland provide an excellent basis for further deepening cooperation in various areas. “As you mentioned, the economic and cultural sectors are important, and I am confident that we will be able to share experience in different fields with each other,” she said.
During the meeting, the sides discussed agenda issues of multi-sectoral cooperation, including collaboration in the environmental sector.
They also emphasized the effective cooperation between Armenia and Switzerland on international platforms. In this context, Ambassador Baumann reaffirmed Switzerland’s readiness to provide maximum support for the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), to be held in Armenia in 2026.
