Afghanistan earthquake death toll tops 2,200

The death toll in Afghanistan’s August 31 earthquake has reached 2,205 with at least 3,640 people injured, Reuters reported citing the Taliban administration.
Search operations continued in the quake-hit mountainous eastern areas on Thursday.
The earthquake of magnitude 6 struck Kunar province, causing damage and destruction.
More than 6,700 homes have been destroyed, Reuters reported citing authorities.
Humanitarian needs are "vast and growing rapidly", said the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
