Armenian Speaker of Parliament meets with Kyrgyz counterpart

Speaker of Parliament of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, met with his counterpart Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu during his official visit to Kyrgyzstan.

The one-on-one meeting was followed by an expanded-format meeting involving delegations, the parliament’s press service said in a readout.

“Alen Simonyan expressed gratitude to Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu for the warm reception, stating that he is happy to be in a friendly country,” the parliament’s press service said. The speakers of parliament discussed “a broad range of matters pertaining to the development of interparliamentary ties, as well as issues of bilateral interest.”

Speaker Simonyan and his Kyrgyz counterpart discussed the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan. “In this context, Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu said that Kyrgyzstan welcomes the Washington declaration and the initialed peace agreement, adding that this will have great impact in terms of establishing lasting peace in the region. Alen Simonyan drew his counterpart’s attention to the issue of the prisoners of war and unlawfully held persons in Azerbaijan, attaching importance to the issue of the missing servicemen,” according to the readout.

Simonyan toured the parliament building of Kyrgyzstan and became acquainted with various innovative solutions.
