Armenia, UK highlight importance of studies on economic projects

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received Stephen Doughty, Minister of State for Europe, North America and Overseas Territories of the United Kingdom, the PM’s office has said in a readout.

Welcoming the visit, the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the successful phase of the Armenia–UK strategic dialogue. He noted that Doughty’s visit takes place at a very important and even historic time, given the agreements reached in Washington, which create a basis for stability, predictability and broader regional cooperation in the South Caucasus.

Stephen Doughty congratulated the Prime Minister on the results achieved in Washington toward normalizing relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and advancing the peace agenda, emphasizing the United Kingdom’s support for that process.

The parties reaffirmed their readiness to elevate Armenia–UK relations to the level of a strategic partnership. They underlined that cooperation is based on shared values: democracy, the rule of law, and the protection of fundamental human rights.

Discussions touched upon the further development and expansion of bilateral ties. The sides emphasized the importance of conducting studies on economic projects of mutual interest, implementing joint investment programs and encouraging greater involvement of British companies in infrastructure and other projects in Armenia.

Prime Minister Pashinyan also highlighted the United Kingdom’s active participation in the European Political Community Summit and the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity to be held in Armenia next year.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
