Washington accords signal new agenda of development for Armenia, says PM

After signing the Washington accords with Azerbaijan, Armenia has embarked on a new dimension of development, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has said.

Speaking at the Cabinet meeting on Thursday, Pashinyan congratulated everyone on the occasion of establishing peace with Azerbaijan.

He said that the text of the accords was thoroughly analyzed before traveling to Washington, D.C.

“We had a series of discussions with the Cabinet, an enlarged meeting of the Security Council, the President, the Civil Contract [parliamentary] faction. I convened consultations, discussions and we studied the text before going to Washington. And we concluded that this step must be taken,” Pashinyan said.

He thanked the Cabinet members for support.

“I am convinced that with this step we have entered a new agenda of development, a new development dimension. And here the substance and energy of our work must be more. The efficiency of our work must be greater. There’s a lot of work to be done ahead. It is a constructive, peaceful and creative work. And we must all be maximally focused on that work,” Pashinyan said.

PM Pashinyan attached importance to communicating to the public the ongoing work.

“Even the greatest achievements would be contentious if the origins of that success is unclear for the public,” he said, calling on his administration to highlight public relations.

He wished his team good luck in “the new, creative phase of institutionalizing peace.”
