Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport meets UK Ambassador

Armenian Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Zhanna Andreasyan has held a meeting with the outgoing UK Ambassador John Gallagher.

The Minister expressed gratitude to the Ambassador for the effective work carried out and the progress made in developing cooperation between the two countries during his tenure, and also wished him success in his future endeavors. Andreasyan emphasized the Ambassador's personal contribution and efforts in strengthening and deepening educational and cultural ties, the ministry said in a press release.

The Minister emphasized the cooperation with the Embassy in strategically important areas. In this context, Minister Andreasyan expressed her gratitude for the active involvement in the "Academic City" program – Armenia has been cooperating with the University of the Arts London and the Institute of Education, University College London as part of the project.

The Minister also highlighted the joint work toward the development of the Armenian Culture Preservation and Development 2023-2027 strategy, noting that the document approved by the Cabinet is available in English through the support of the British Council.

Andreasyan underscored the role and support of the British Council in developing the methodology of teaching English in Armenia, continuous professional development and training of teachers, as well as the implementation of the Creative Spark program in universities.

She highlighted the cooperation with British Museum for The Mother Goddess: From Anahit to Mary temporary exhibition.

The parties also discussed Armenian participation in the upcoming 2025 Going Global conference for international education leaders due in London in October. Andreasyan said that the conference is an important platform for exchange of experience and presenting Armenia’s practice.

Andreasyan said that Yerevan will host two major events in autumn 2025 – Academic City: International Knowledge Forum and the Cultural Crossroads: Yerevan International Conference, with the latter being dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. Andreasyan expressed confidence that the participation of British officials will contribute to the continuity of bilateral discussions, exploration of new avenues of cooperation and strengthening of ties in education, culture, research and innovation.

Ambassador Gallagher expressed gratitude for the warm reception and many years of productive cooperation, highlighting the positive progress and need for utilizing the potential of partnership.

Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed.
