Armenian interior minister, EU ambassador discuss visa liberalization

Armenian Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan has met with Head of EU Delegation to Armenia Vassilis Maragos.

The minister lauded the existing close cooperation in a number of areas and presented the ministry’s actions toward visa liberalization, pointing out the introduction of biometric system and police reforms, the ministry said in a press release. 

Ambassador Maragos highlighted the effective partnership that has been yielding visible results. He addressed the EU work as part of the action plan. 

The sides discussed the envisaged joint projects, opportunities to organize high-level meetings, cooperation with EU member states toward visa liberalization, border control reforms, issues pertaining to Armenian citizenship institution, as well as combating corruption and trafficking.

EU support, introduction of reliable crime statistics as part of combating crime, as well as deepening cooperation with Europol and Frontex were discussed.
