Armenian PM lauds highest point in relations with United States

Armenia-US relations are now at the highest possible point, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has said.

Speaking to reporters in Washington, Pashinyan said that Armenia and the United States signed three bilateral MoUs during his historic visit to Washington.

“The first one pertains to the Crossroads of Peace project. In the memorandum, the US expresses interest in making investments in the Crossroads of Peace project with full respect to Armenia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of borders. This is important because the memorandum of understanding related to Crossroads of Peace project comes to complement which was announced earlier,” Pashinyan said, referring to the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), which fits into the Crossroads of Peace framework.

“The next document we signed bilaterally with President Trump pertains to the development of technological and AI areas, which likewise implies major investments and support to the sector’s development in Armenia,” Pashinyan said, adding that American partners have underscored Armenian potential for developing tech and AI.

“The third memorandum related to the partnership in energy, particularly in two directions. One of them is innovative technologies in nuclear energy, and second is the introduction of electricity accumulator technologies,” Pashinyan said, adding that Armenia already has solar energy equaling the volume of three nuclear power plants. “It is highly important to have proper capacity of accumulators to be able to ensure energy security with that. And with today’s memorandum of understanding we will deepen partnership with the US in this direction.”

Recalling the Armenian government’s interest in modular nuclear power plant technologies, he said that the document stipulates US readiness to share the technology with Armenia.
