The unblocking of Armenia is already in process and it will enable to establish railway connection with the outside world, PM Nikol Pashinyan has said.
“A very important and seemingly improbable record – Armenia’s unblocking is already happening,” he told reporters in Washington after the joint declaration with Azerbaijan was signed. “Armenia will have the opportunity to have railway connection with the outside world. We will have railway connection from Armenia through Azerbaijani territory into Armenia, including various roads that can pass through Azerbaijan. The issue of the connection between the main part of Azerbaijan and its Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic was also resolved within the framework of Armenia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and jurisdiction,” Pashinyan said.
He said the process doesn’t imply a corridor logic.
In his remarks, President of the United States Donald Trump used the term corridor, but not in the sense of extraterritoriality.
“We have announced that there cannot be any corridor logic. US President Donald Trump nevertheless used the term corridor, but this is a widely used term and it is perceived normally. For us, due to certain circumstances, it creates some tension, but this is the same when we say North-South Road Corridor. But the logic of a corridor which was widely discussed in the past will not happen, obviously,” Pashinyan said, referring to the past Azeri demands of an extraterritorial corridor.
