Armenia and Azerbaijan have initialed the peace treaty under the joint declaration brokered by the United States, PM Pashinyan has said.
Speaking to reporters after the signing ceremony in the White House, Pashinyan said the initialing of the Agreement on Establishing Peace and Inter-State Relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan is a crucial event and a significant step toward the final signing and ratification.
“Overall the declaration is about establishing peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The declaration clearly stipulates that we are closing the chapter of enmity, ruling out the use of force and building relations based on the UN Charter and the Almaty Declaration, which means that the territory of Soviet Armenia is identical with the territory of the Republic of Armenia, and the territory of Soviet Azerbaijan with the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan. We reciprocally recognize each other’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, inviolability of borders, and peace is established,” Pashinyan said.
