Archbishop Ajapahyan’s indictment sent to court

The prosecutor has confirmed the indictment of Archbishop Mikayel Ajapahyan and sent it to court, the general prosecution has announced.

Archbishop Ajapahyan is the head of the Diocese of Shirak of the Armenian Apostolic Church.

He has been jailed in pre-trial detention since June 28 on charges of advocating for overthrow of government. He has denied wrongdoing. Prosecutors say the charges stem from the archbishop’s comments in public interviews which constitute a call for coup.
