President Khachaturyan awards Armenian Studies Professors Theo Maarten van Lint and Anna Sirinyan

President of the Republic of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan received Professor of Armenian Studies at the University of Oxford Theo Maarten van Lint and Associate Professor of Armenian Studies at the University of Bologna Anna Sirinyan.

They were accompanied by the Director of the Matenadaran, Ara Khzmalyan, and representatives of the institution’s management team. The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, Zhanna Andreasyan, also participated in the meeting.

According to the Presidential Office, welcoming the guests, President Khachaturyan highly appreciated the long-term academic activities of Professor Van Lint and Associate Professor Sirinyan, as well as their valuable contribution to the development of Armenian studies.

“The work you have done over the years is commendable. Through your scholarly activities, you have introduced Armenian language, literature, culture, and history to the world. Your work is of great importance to us as well, and I encourage you to continue this dedicated mission,” the President said.

He noted that Armenia today places particular emphasis on Armenology and science in general.

Speaking about the era of technological progress and artificial intelligence, President Khachaturyan stressed that in the context of Armenia’s aspirations to become a high-tech country, the role of education and science is only increasing. In this regard, he also underscored the importance of Armenology as a cornerstone for preserving national identity and strengthening international scientific cooperation.

Expressing gratitude for the warm welcome and high appreciation, Associate Professor Anna Sirinyan noted that the President’s encouraging words were a great source of inspiration for her.

At the conclusion of the meeting, President Khachaturyan awarded Professor Theo Maarten van Lint and Associate Professor Anna Sirinyan the Movses Khorenatsi Medal for their significant contribution to the development of Armenian studies and their long-standing scholarly work.

The President warmly congratulated them and wished them continued success in their future academic endeavors.
