Archbishops Ajapahyan and Galstanyan to hold one-day hunger strike on July 5

Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan, head of the Shirak Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, and Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, leader of the “Sacred Struggle” movement, will go on a one-day hunger strike on July 5. Ajapahyan's defense team has said, announcing their decision.

"On the occasion of Constitution Day of the Republic of Armenia, and in condemnation of the unconstitutional process underway against us, we, Archbishops Mikael and Bagrat, declare a one-day hunger strike on July 5," the statement reads.

Archbishop Galstanyan was arrested on terrorism charges and accused of plotting to overthrow the government. A court has ruled to remand him in pre-trial detention for two months.

Archbishop Ajapahyan has been charged with advocating the overthrow of the government and has also been remanded in pre-trial detention for two months.
