Russian Embassy sends note to Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry

The Russian Embassy in Baku has sent a note to the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs requesting consular access to detained Russian citizens. According to a statement published on the embassy’s Telegram channel, no response has yet been received from the Azerbaijani side.

“The embassy has sent urgent notes to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry demanding consular access to the detained Russian citizens. There has been no response from the Azerbaijani side. We are keeping this situation under constant control and are taking all necessary measures,” the statement said.

On June 30, Azerbaijani authorities detained seven employees of the Sputnik Azerbaijan news agency, which operates under the Rossiya Segodnya media group. Among those arrested were the head of the Sputnik Azerbaijan editorial board, Igor Kartavikh, and editor-in-chief Yevgeny Belousov, who are arrested for four months.
