U.S. Customs and Border Protection team hasn’t yet arrived, says Armenian FM

The planned visit of a U.S. Customs and Border Protection team to Armenia has not yet taken place, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan has said.

“It is about the enhancement and improvement of our border crossing control mechanisms, our possibilities,” Mirzoyan said in parliament, explaining the purpose of the planned visit.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection team was supposed to travel to Armenia a few weeks after the signing of the Armenia-U.S. Strategic Partnership Charter in January 2025. The aim of the visit was to support the development of border security capabilities.

“This is about technical processes, about the enhancement of the capabilities of Armenian border guard services. This shouldn’t be interpreted otherwise. The team hasn’t yet arrived,” Mirzoyan said.
