Armenian FM congratulates newly elected UN Tourism Secretary-General

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan has congratulated Shaikha Al Nowais on her election as the next Secretary-General of the UN World Tourism Organization.

“Warm congratulations to Shaikha Al Nowais, UAE candidate on her successful nomination for the position of the SG of UN World Tourism Organization. I look forward to our close cooperation to further enhance the friendly ties btw peoples of Armenia and UAE as well as engagement within UNWTO," Mirzoyan said in a post on X.

Following protocol, the UN Tourism Executive Council elected last week Shaikha Al Nowais as the next Secretary-General, to begin in January 2026. Her nomination will be put to the UN Tourism General Assembly for their approval. The nomination represents a landmark first for the sector, as the first woman leader of UN Tourism in its 50-year history.
