“Western Azerbaijan” doesn’t exist in territory of Armenia – foreign ministry’s response to Aliyev’s false narrative

1 minute read

Armenian foreign ministry spokesperson Ani Badalyan has responded to the fake narrative of so-called "Western Azerbaijan" which Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has once again voiced.

Badalyan commented on Aliyev’s statement in response to a query from Armenpress.

Armenpress: During an event yesterday, the Azerbaijani President made a statement, which once again underscored the so-called "Western Azerbaijan" narrative. How would you respond to this?

Badalyan: “Western Azerbaijan” does not exist in the territory of the Republic of Armenia. The western regions of the Republic of Azerbaijan constitute Western Azerbaijan. As a reminder, the Armenian side numerously responded to this Azerbaijani narrative in the past as well, stressing that such statements by the Azerbaijani side are viewed as territorial claims against the Republic of Armenia.
