On May 19, Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan received the delegation led by the President of the House of Representatives of Cyprus Annita Demetriou.
Underscoring the deepening cooperation between the two countries, Speaker Simonyan informed his colleague about the desire to raise the bilateral friendly relations to a new, functional level, proposing to consider the signing of a Strategic Partnership Agreement between Armenia and Cyprus, the parliament’s press service said in a readout. Demetriou welcomed the proposal.
The parties also touched upon issues regarding the inter-parliamentary cooperation and other topics of mutual interest. A separate reference was made to the activities of the Armenian community of Cyprus and its key role in fraternal relations between the two countries.
The sides also discussed the regional issues, in that context underlining the necessity of signing the peace agreement which has already been agreed upon between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Speaker Simonyan drew his colleague’s attention to the issue of the unlawfully held POWs and other captives in Azerbaijan, as well as the issue of missing servicemen.
After the meeting in an enlarged format, Alen Simonyan and Annita Demetriou held a joint press conference. The meeting ended with a symbolic tree planting.
