No indication of Azeri plans to incite escalation, says Armenian official

Armenia doesn’t have clear indications at this moment that Azerbaijan is planning a military escalation, the Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Mnatsakan Safaryan said on Friday.

Asked at a press briefing whether Azerbaijan could be planning to incite a new escalation given its regular border shootings, Safaryan said it’s difficult to give assessments to that.

“That is, by assuming we can assume anything. But at this moment we don’t have such indications,” Safaryan said.

Asked whether the border shootings could be considered as such an indication, Safaryan said the question should be addressed to the Defense Ministry.

“We saw that they are shooting in the air,” Safaryan said, adding that Armenia’s response in the diplomatic arena continues to be based on the agenda of peace.

The Deputy FM reiterated that Armenia is committed to the agenda of peace and moves forward in that direction.
