Armenian Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan on Thursday received Lindsay Cornell, Chair of WorldDAB’s Technical Committee and Principal Systems Architect for BBC Digital and Will Jackson, Communications Manager for WorldDAB. The meeting was aimed at discussing the vision and the most effective and secure ways to introduce digital radio in Armenia.
Narek Adamyan, General Director of the Television and Radio Broadcasting Network of Armenia, also attended the meeting.
According to the Ministry of High-Tech Industry of the Republic of Armenia, the discussion focused on models for introducing digital radio broadcasting networks, particularly the DAB+ (Digital Audio Broadcasting Plus) network membership models, the policies and experiences of other countries in implementing in providing vehicles and the population with digital radio receivers, regulations and restrictions successfully applied in the market, the introduction of an emergency warning system, airwave protection, and measures to prevent the penetration of radio frequencies from other countries, as well as other issues that would contribute to the rapid establishment and development of the digital radio ecosystem.
The parties reached agreements on cooperation and outlined further steps and activities.
It was noted that, with the support of the Ministry of High-Tech Industry of the Republic of Armenia and the initiative of the Armenian Television and Radio Broadcasting Network CJSC, a conference entitled “The Prospects of Digital Radio in Armenia” was held on May 6–7.
Leading specialists in the field, including experts from WorldDAB were invited to discuss the prospects and vision for digital radio in Armenia.
