Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with President of Georgia Mikheil Kavelashvili who paid an official visit to Armenia.
Welcoming Kavelashvili’s official visit, the Armenian PM once again congratulated him on his election as President of Georgia, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a readout.
He wished Kavelashvili successes during his tenure for the welfare of the brotherly Georgia, and to the benefit of the bilateral ties and the region.
“You know how much we value our bilateral relations with Georgia and we have already elevated our relations to a level of strategic partnership. I think it is a step that reflects our long-term intentions. I’ve always said and I continue to be convinced that Georgia and Armenia have common interests and we must build our relations on these interests,” the Armenian PM said, adding that these interests also fit into the context of the entire region’s long-term development interests.
President of Georgia Mikheil Kavelashvili thanked for the warm reception and said he was honored to visit Armenia for the first time as president.
“It is a great honor for me, because our nations have lived side by side for many centuries, our friendship spans over 3000 years, which is very exemplary all over the world. I spoke about this also with the President of Armenia, and truly this is very special, that today our nations exist. Certainly, our relations must deepen and develop, last year the strategic agreement was signed,” the Georgian president said, adding that no effort must be spared for South Caucasus to become a powerful region.
He welcomed the finalization of the talks around the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace agreement and expressed hope that it will be signed soon, and peace and stability will be established in the region.
The Armenian PM and the Georgian President also discussed various items on the cooperation agenda between the two countries pertaining to the joint projects in the economy, tourism, infrastructures, education and other areas. The sides attached importance to the intensified nature of mutual high-level visits, expressing conviction that the active dialogue boosts partnership in all areas.
The developments in the region were also discussed.
Both sides attached importance to the signing of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace agreement for the benefit of ensuring lasting peace in the region.
