Paris City Hall hosts reception commemorating 110th anniversary of Armenian Genocide

On April 24, at the invitation of Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, a reception dedicated to the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide was held at Paris City Hall. According to a statement by the Embassy of Armenia in France, the event was attended by parliamentarians, members of the Paris City Council, representatives of community, cultural, and religious organizations, as well as hundreds of French-Armenians.

Speeches were delivered by Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, Armenian Ambassador to France Arman Khachatryan, and the co-chairs of the Coordinating Council of Armenian Organizations of France (CCAF).

Ambassador Khachatryan expressed deep gratitude to Mayor Hidalgo for her exceptional solidarity and continued support for Armenia and the Armenian people. He highlighted the importance of the annual reception commemorating the Armenian Genocide and emphasized the numerous resolutions adopted by the Paris City Council in Armenia’s interest at the mayor’s initiative.

The Ambassador emphasized that France has historically stood by the Armenian people, becoming a second homeland for thousands of genocide survivors. In turn, those Armenians have contributed significantly to the development and defense of France, as a gesture of gratitude.

Khachatryan also noted that the Armenian Genocide committed in the Ottoman Empire based on national identity, involving the appropriation of property and destruction of a rich historical and cultural heritage was never properly condemned by the international community.

“This lack of accountability, has led to further atrocities, including the recent ethnic cleansing of Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh,” he said.

In this context, Ambassador Khachatryan noted that the Republic of Armenia struggles against genocides and crimes against humanity, realizing the full tragedy of these crimes through its own history.
