We will never again allow oblivion to obscure the truth - Mayor of Kalamaria

The Mayor of Kalamaria, Greece, Chrysa Arapoglou, has addressed the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

“The memory of the Armenians and Pontians is not just part of the past. It is a flame that guides us—a duty, a responsibility, and a pledge that we will never again allow oblivion to obscure the truth,” Arapoglou said in a post on Facebook.

“110 years ago, the Armenian people endured a genocide that left a deep mark on their history and open wounds in the hearts of generations.

Kalamaria knows that pain well. Our refugee identity is inextricably linked to the genocide of the Greeks of Pontus and Asia Minor, which followed the Armenian Genocide. Our stories intersected in pain and uprooting, but also in the dignity with which our peoples rose again.

We stand with the Armenian people with respect, love, and emotion. Because history is not just numbers. It is faces, lives, and tears that never dried.

Today, from Kalamaria, we send a powerful message of solidarity, unity, and historical justice to all those who were lost, and to all who carried history on their shoulders to rebuild their lives anew.

We do not forget. We remember, we honor, and we continue.”
