April 24 is significant for all who advocate justice, says Professor Bernard Coulie

BRUSSELS, APRIL 24, ARMENPRESS. Professor Bernard Coulie, former Chair of the Armenian Studies Faculty at the Catholic University of Leuven (UCL), believes that the Armenian Genocide committed by the Ottoman Empire at the beginning of the 20th century is just a link in an uncompleted chain.

“What happened to the Armenians at the beginning of the 20th century is a link in a chain that, unfortunately, has not yet been completed,” he said.

According to him, the continued non-recognition of the Armenian Genocide by several countries, including Turkey, the state of Armenian monuments on Turkish territory, the elimination of the Armenian presence in Artsakh, the deportation of Armenians, and the erasure of traces of their ancestral presence represent a continuation of the same logic that led to the events of 1915–1916.

“That is why April 24 is so important not only for Armenians, but for all who stand for justice,” Professor Coulie said.
