President Donald Trump said he will attend the funeral of Pope Francis in what would be the US leader’s first foreign trip in his second administration.
“Melania and I will be going to the funeral of Pope Francis, in Rome. We look forward to being there!” Trump posted on Truth Social.
The Vatican said the Pope’s death was due to stroke and irreversible cardiocirculatory collapse.
Hours before his death was announced on Monday, Francis met briefly with US Vice President JD Vance.
The date of the funeral is yet to be announced.
