The number of civil cases in courts has significantly decreased over the course of the past few years thanks to legislative reforms, according to Supreme Judicial Council President Artur Atabekyan.
Speaking at the conference titled Justice as a Tool to Achieve Fairness organized by the Ministry of Justice, Atabekyan said the Supreme Judicial Council has been able to significantly reduce the workload of courts through legislative initiatives developed jointly with lawmakers and government officials.
“The reforms carried out recently in terms of civil cases have given positive results. Cases that pertain to confiscation of up to 2 million drams are no longer examined by judges dealing with civil lawsuits. This has allowed us to reduce the number of civil cases up to nearly 80%,” he said.
The number of civil cases reduced from 170,000 to 20,000, which has impacted the effectiveness of courts positively.
