Armenia ready to finalize historic peace agreement with Azerbaijan — Deputy Speaker at 150th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly

Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Hakob Arshakyan, delivered a speech within the framework of the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

The Deputy Speaker stated that Armenia reaffirms the approval of the draft peace agreement with Azerbaijan and that negotiations have been successfully completed.

"The peace agreement is now ready for signing, and Armenia stands ready to finalize this historic step. We invite Azerbaijan to join us in implementing this significant move toward a peaceful and prosperous future for our two peoples."

At the beginning of his speech, the Deputy Speaker expressed gratitude to the friends from Uzbekistan for their high level of hospitality in the beautiful city of Tashkent.

“Today, Armenia celebrates the National Day of Mothers and Women, and I would like to congratulate all the women present in this hall and wish you peace and prosperity.

It is a great honor for me to address you today at this important moment, as we work together to build a more just, peaceful, and prosperous world.”

Deputy Speaker Arshakyan addressed the participants of the Assembly:

“Gathered here today, we are united in confronting the urgent challenges facing us. All over the world, we encounter complex issues that threaten our future if we remain indifferent.

We are here to engage in meaningful discussions about the future we aspire to build — a future founded on justice, equality, and above all, peace.

Armenia believes that real development goes beyond economic growth. We are discussing the establishment of systems that guarantee social protection, equal opportunities, and dignity for every citizen.

In Armenia, we make every effort to meet the needs of vulnerable groups, striving to ensure that healthcare, education, and security are not privileges for the few but rights for all.

We also prioritize social inclusion, ensuring that everyone — regardless of gender, ethnicity, or background — has access to opportunities. In 2025, Armenia increased social protection spending by 14.9 percent compared to 2024.

It is through such actions that we strengthen democracy and build a more resilient society.

In Armenia, we know that establishing peace is a long and sometimes difficult journey — one for which every effort is worthwhile.

In this spirit, we have recently taken a significant step.

Armenia confirms that the draft peace agreement with Azerbaijan has been approved and the negotiations have successfully concluded. The peace agreement is now ready to be signed, and Armenia is prepared to complete this historic step.

We invite Azerbaijan to join us in taking this vital step toward a peaceful and prosperous future for our two peoples.”
