No response from Azerbaijan to Armenian lawmaker’s meeting offer

Azerbaijan hasn’t yet responded to an Armenian lawmaker’s offer to hold an interparliamentary meeting.

Armenian Member of Parliament Sargis Khandanyan, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Relations, last week proposed his Azerbaijani counterpart to convene a meeting of the committees to discuss the recently agreed-upon draft peace agreement.

Khandanyan told reporters on Thursday that there’s been no reaction from Azerbaijan.

“Taking into account that the text of the peace agreement is finalized and negotiations around the venue, date and further course must take place, I found it appropriate to address my colleague at the Azerbaijani parliament with an offer to have a discussion around this issue. But there’s been no response yet,” Khandanyan said, expressing hope that the Azerbaijani lawmakers will eventually agree.

In his letter sent to the Azeri side, the Armenian lawmaker said that as a venue for the meeting they can consider a neutral location along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border.
